Why We Built Our Legal Technology Inside Microsoft 365

In-house legal teams are surrounded by platforms promising efficiency and speed, yet they often create more complexity and wind up underutilised. Between steep learning curves, document storage requirements, security measures and fragmented workflows, the administrative overhead of legal work has quietly ballooned.

Working with legal teams of all sizes, across multiple jurisdictions, we’ve seen the frustration and drag of disconnected systems on in-house teams:

  • Time lost to heavily, repetitive admin tasks

  • Commercial context slipping through the cracks

  • Lengthy implementations requiring heavy customisation

  • The mental load of managing a sprawling tech stack

We didn’t want to build just another legal tech platform. We wanted to solve the deeper problem.

Designed by Lawyers, for Lawyers

In-house legal functions run on nuance, judgement, and complex problem-solving, things you can’t and shouldn’t simply automate away.

That’s why we resisted the urge to create another legal tech solution that adds yet more logins, workflow rules or introduces a steep learning curve. Instead, we asked a simple question: What if legal tech got out of the way?

“Lawyers shouldn’t have to learn new tools just to do their job. We designed Cubed to fit around the way legal teams already work - inside Microsoft 365,” says Cubed’s Head of Product, Nam Truong.

Cubed Lives Where You Work: Microsoft 365

Rather than reinvent the wheel, we embedded Cubed within the Microsoft environment legal teams already use every day. That means teams can continue working seamlessly in Outlook, Teams, Word, and SharePoint, as well as using their favourite digital enablement tools such as DocuSign, CoPilot, Grammarly or Jira.

That means there’s no need to switch platforms, no context lost between systems and no retraining required. Your legal team stays in its flow, while Cubed manages intake, triage, matter management, contract workflows, automated filing, and team visibility, all without leaving the security of your existing Microsoft 365 environment.

“Security and scale were non-negotiables. Building within the Microsoft 365 environment gave us both, and avoided the risk of shadow IT that is non-compliant,” says Nam.

Simple by Design.

“Simplicity isn’t a feature of Cubed, it’s a foundation,” explains Nam. “We deliberately stripped back the unnecessary.” By avoiding the bloat of legacy legal systems, Cubed focuses on the essentials:

  • Simple legal intake

  • Matter visibility

  • Contract and document workflows

  • Embedded automation

  • Scalable governance

It’s not about bells and whistles. It’s about a better legal solution that returns time to your team, reduces noise, and enables smarter collaboration.

Rethink the Stack

Before you invest in more legal tech, consider this: you may not need more legal tech. You might just need legal tech that works better inside the systems your business and team already trust and use every day.
